Prosecutors link 'Operation Influencer' to 'Marquês' case
The magistrates conducting 'Operation Influencer' have requested evidentiary materials from the 'Operation Marquês' case, which is currently on trial. The aim is to gather evidence about an alleged scheme of trafficking in influence related to the authorisation of a data centre in the Sines area.
According to Correio da Manhã, prosecutors have requested search warrants for the residence and office of Vítor Escária. This former collaborator of António Costa, who held the position of chief of staff at São Bento, is suspected of having intervened improperly to favour the installation of that technological infrastructure in the Alentejo region.
'Operation Marquês' has as its central figure the former prime minister José Sócrates, accused of corruption offences. Investigators from 'Operation Influencer' are now seeking to establish points of contact between the two inquiries, particularly with regard to pressures and political decisions that may have benefited private interests.
The collection of evidence in the case already before the court represents a significant development, as it allows prosecutors to access documentation and testimony gathered within the scope of a separate investigation, but with potential connections to the case in question.
