The GNR detained four individuals in the municipality of Alcobaça, accused of involvement in the unlawful trade of psychotropic substances and possession of weapons. The detainees are men aged between 28 and 50 years. The police operation took place on Wednesday.

According to information disclosed by Correio da Manhã, the operation is part of an inquiry that had been ongoing for approximately twelve months, with particular focus on the area surrounding the village of Pataias. Officers executed ten search warrants — half at residences and half at vehicles — in the areas of Pataias, Martingança and Casal da Areia.

During the searches, agents recovered one pistol or revolver, seven nine-millimetre projectiles, a fixed-blade razor, a spring-loaded penknife and two pistol replicas. With regard to illicit substances, more than eight hundred doses of cocaine, approximately three hundred doses of hashish and less than one gramme of ecstasy were removed from circulation. The seized material also included five electronic precision scales, utensils for subdividing and packaging narcotics and five road-sign plates.

One of the four detainees was also formally accused of theft from a commercial establishment. Subsequently, the security force notified two further men — aged 44 and 51 years — as suspects of drug trafficking.

The operation mobilised personnel from GNR regional commands based in Leiria, Santarém and Lisbon, together with members of the Intervention Unit.
