Receptionist arrested for aggravated rape of young trainee at Lisbon hotel
Google News PT — Crime (pt) reports the arrest of a 28-year-old man, a receptionist at a hotel in Lisbon, suspected of aggravated rape and harassment of a 19-year-old who was undertaking professional work experience at the same hotel unit.
According to a statement from the Judicial Police (PJ), the crimes occurred on the 1st and 2nd of the current month. During a night-time round, the suspect led the victim — who was under his supervision — to an area not covered by the video surveillance system, where he carried out the rape using physical violence. In the next shift, the crime was repeated "despite the victim's resistance", the PJ states. The trainee then decided to seek help from someone he trusted.
The hotel transferred the young man to another hotel unit. Nevertheless, the suspect "persisted in searching for the victim at that location, in addition to attempting to contact him persistently by mobile phone, causing him fear and distress", the police force describes.
The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo Directorate of the PJ proceeded with the arrest outside of flagrante delicto following the carrying out of urgent investigative measures at the crime scene, taking into account "the dangers of interference with the investigation and continuation of criminal activity". The suspect, identified as a foreign national, will be brought before the judicial authority for initial judicial interrogation and application of appropriate coercive measures.
