Coimbra inmate sentenced to five and a half years for drug trafficking in prison
A 38-year-old prisoner at Coimbra Prison was sentenced for trafficking in drugs and steroids hidden in his cell.

A 38-year-old inmate serving a sentence at Coimbra Prison (EPC) has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for drug trafficking. The defendant, from Póvoa de Varzim, was accused of aggravated drug trafficking and trafficking in prohibited substances and methods, according to reporting by Correio da Manhã.
The substances were seized on 26 March of last year, following a search of the cell occupied by the inmate at EPC. Inspectors found a roll wrapped in greaseproof paper and plastic, concealed inside a bag kept in the toilet, containing 49.940 grammes of cannabis — a quantity sufficient for 304 individual doses, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office charge.
In the same search, more than five grammes of amphetamines were also seized, corresponding to 47 doses. Inside a roll-on deodorant container and in a capsule of a charger, anabolic steroids were found.
The substances were intended for sale to other inmates at EPC. The panel of judges at Coimbra Court found the facts proved and sentenced the defendant for the crimes with which he was charged.
