Six arrested for drug trafficking in Sintra following ten searches by Judicial Police

The Judicial Police arrested six suspects of drug trafficking following ten house searches conducted in Sintra, according to information from Google News PT. The operation was conducted by the National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking and targeted a criminal structure that, allegedly, had been operating for at least two years.
The arrested individuals are aged between 21 and 44 years old and are strongly suspected of the crimes of drug trafficking and possession of a prohibited firearm.
The investigation identified an organisation dedicated to the acquisition, preparation, adulteration, weighing, packaging and sale of drugs, with distribution directed towards a large number of consumers in neighbourhoods in the urban periphery of Sintra.
The proceedings, carried out with the collaboration of canine units from the Public Security Police, made it possible to seize cocaine, hashish and MDMA — totalling approximately 2,500 individual doses — two firearms, money in cash and two vehicles used in the criminal activity. According to the Judicial Police, the operation targeted not only the substances, but also the means, instruments and assets associated with the distribution chain.
Following the first court hearing, the following enforcement measures were applied: one of the suspects was remanded in custody, three were subject to weekly reporting requirements and two were released with a pledge of identity and residence.
The investigation is continuing under the direction of the Sintra DIAP, with the objective of identifying all those involved and determining criminal responsibilities. The Judicial Police frames the operation within a strategy to combat structures that ensure the regular distribution of drugs in local communities, particularly in residential areas where sales are practised systematically.
