A 35-year-old man was sentenced to serve eight and a half years in prison by the Central Civil and Criminal Court of Portalegre in a ruling handed down on Tuesday. The conviction encompasses three types of offences: domestic abuse, sexual coercion and illegal possession of a firearm. The information was made public on Wednesday through a statement from the local Public Prosecution Service, released by Correio da Manhã.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the defendant, who remains in preventive detention, must compensate the victim with 10,000 euros for moral damages suffered.
The couple began dating in mid-2022 and lived together in Campo Maior for approximately five months last year. During this cohabitation, the accused allegedly subjected the woman to physical and verbal assaults as well as sexual acts against her will.
The panel of judges found the facts as described by the Public Ministry to be proven, resulting in the combined sentence for the three crimes.
