Sintra Court adjourns Betty Grafstein's testimony in domestic violence case
Sintra Court convened on Thursday morning for the first hearing of the trial in which José Castelo Branco faces charges of domestic violence against American jeweller Betty Grafstein. The session took place without either of the two defendants/witnesses being present at the judicial building.
The Portuguese socialite limited himself to making statements remotely, via a video link. The businesswoman was supposed to be heard later that afternoon, but ultimately did not attend.
The lawyer accompanying José Castelo Branco justified his client's absence with professional commitments. As for Betty Grafstein, medical sources considered that her physical condition did not permit her to give testimony in person at this time.
Given this scenario, the panel of judges decided to cancel the hearing scheduled for 2 July. The jeweller's testimony has been rescheduled for 22 September.
During the session, José Castelo Branco also expressed concern regarding the wellbeing of his companion.
