Anti-narcotics operation in Asunción yields eight arrests and cocaine seizure

The National Police dismantled on Monday an alleged cell linked to Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset that was operating in the Roberto L. Petit neighbourhood of Asunción, according to ultimahora.com. The operation resulted in the arrest of eight people and the seizure of more than 10 kilograms of cocaine distributed in several packages.

Police Commissioner César Diarte, head of the Anti-Narcotics Department and responsible for the operation, explained to radio Monumental 1080 AM that the investigation extended over two years and eight months. The intelligence work aimed to identify members of a network with links in Brazil and Paraguay.

"The detainees would be in charge of the logistical arm of a very important group," Diarte said. According to the hypothesis being pursued by investigators, the organisation received shipments from Bolivia and redistributed them from the Paraguayan capital.

In initial statements, Diarte did not rule out connections with the Primeiro Comando Capital (PCC) and the Clan Rotela, a Paraguayan criminal organisation with strong presence in Asunción and the Central department. Later, in an interview broadcast by NPY, he clarified that it would be a cell belonging to the structure of Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset, who would have links with the PCC.

Diego David Giménez Arámbulo was identified by investigation sources as the leader of the dismantled organisation. Arrested with him were Juan Ángel Bareiro Espínola, Mauricio José Acosta Hermosa, Hernán Esteban González Gómez, Thiago Abel Fernández Arámbulo, Rodrigo Fabio Cardozo Centurión, Denis José Díaz Cantero and Américo Alexis Estigarribia Urán.

Among the assets seized during the operation were five trucks, motorcycles, firearms and documentation classified as significant by investigators. Diarte also added that money transfers abroad were verified.
