Police officers from the Organised Crime Fighting Brigade Bucharest and DIICOT prosecutors – Central Structure conducted 15 house searches. A network of 12 Sri Lankan citizens was selling prohibited substances at private events in Bucharest and Ilfov.

On Monday, law enforcement officers descended on 15 addresses in Bucharest, Ilfov and Dâmbovița. The action was coordinated by DIICOT prosecutors – Central Structure, together with police specialists in combating organised crime from the capital. The objective was to dismantle a network specialised in the distribution of narcotics, whose mode of operation also included organising parties where prohibited substances were distributed.
The 12 individuals targeted were from Sri Lanka and were on Romanian territory with valid work permits dating from 2024. Investigators estimate that the criminal activity began at least in June 2025 and has continued to the present. The profit obtained came from the repeated sale of risk and high-risk drugs, according to details provided by Adevărul.
The structure of the group was organised in multiple tiers. Network members administered properties used as warehouses and distribution points. They handled procurement, storage and delivery, distributing narcotics including at private events intended for the Sri Lankan community in the area.
Clients included both loyal customers and occasional purchasers. Transactions took place in specially adapted residences, but also at parties and other events held in Bucharest.
One specific case investigated by prosecutors concerned a private party held during the night of 29 to 30 June 2025. The event brought together over 200 participants, including members of the group. During the party, risk and high-risk drugs were sold. A young man present there died following cardio-respiratory failure, triggered by the combined effect of multiple substances: cocaine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, ecstasy and ketamine.
Throughout the investigation, law enforcement officers confiscated significant quantities of narcotics: cannabis, cannabis resin, cocaine, ecstasy pills and methamphetamine. Investigations are continuing at the DIICOT – Central Structure headquarters, with support from officers from the Special Intervention Brigade.
