Incident at Alba Iulia Police headquarters: man with airsoft grenade detained for 24 hours
Cotidianul.ro reports that a 43-year-old man was detained on Saturday after entering the access control area of Alba Iulia Municipal Police with an airsoft-type weapon and a grenade used in recreational airsoft games on his person, repeatedly asking the on-duty officer to open fire on him.
The prosecutor handling the case from the Office of the Prosecutor attached to Alba Iulia District Court ordered the man to be detained for 24 hours. He will be investigated for contempt and unauthorised possession or use of dangerous objects.
According to representatives of the Alba County Police Inspectorate, the man pointed the objects at the officer on duty and repeated his request to be shot. The situation was managed without any casualties being recorded — the targeted police officer suffered no bodily injury, and no other person present at the headquarters was harmed.
Following a body search conducted after the intervention, investigators found a penknife on the man, which was seized for the purposes of continuing the investigation.
Investigators are attempting to establish the reason that led the man to resort to this act. His mental state and any personal problems that could explain the demonstrated behaviour are to be analysed as part of the inquiry.
The investigation continues under the coordination of prosecutors, who will decide what preventive measures will be proposed following the expiration of the detention order.
