A 45-year-old police officer, holding the rank of chief police officer, has been placed under judicial control at home for a period of 30 days, accused of sexual assault. The man is employed at the Timiș County Police Inspectorate. AGERPRES

Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Timișoara Municipal Police, under the supervision of a prosecutor from the Timișoara Court Prosecutor's Office, initially detained the suspect for 24 hours.

According to the evidence presented, on 7 May, the accused allegedly entered the victim's apartment, a 19-year-old young woman. There, he allegedly committed sexual acts against her, exploiting the fragile situation in which she found herself and the relationship of trust between them.

Following the detention, the magistrates were presented with a proposal to impose a preventive measure. The court decided on house arrest for one month.

The Timiș County Police Inspectorate issued a statement in which it firmly distances itself from any conduct that violates legal provisions and the deontological norms of the profession.
