Romanian magistrates have ordered the detention of new suspects linked to a criminal group that sold drugs at parties organised for the Sri Lankan community in the capital.

Judges in Bucharest have issued preventive arrest warrants for several individuals suspected of being part of a criminal organisation specialising in the trafficking of banned substances. The group operated within social events intended for the Sri Lankan community in Romania.
According to the publication Digi24, the investigation was expanded after an initial series of arrests took place in the same case. Prosecutors demonstrated that the newly charged individuals had well-defined roles in the group's structure: some were responsible for procurement, others for direct distribution to consumers, and others for organising the meetings themselves.
Searches carried out by police led to the discovery of significant quantities of drugs, as well as sums of money believed to have come from illegal activity. Investigators used interception and technical surveillance to document the drug trafficking.
The court found that the suspects' freedom would represent a danger to public order and could obstruct the discovery of the truth. The preventive arrest measure was ordered for 30 days, with the possibility of extension. The investigation aims to identify all persons involved and the source of the drug supply.
