Suspect detained after attacking Bucharest Pride participants; weapons found at home
A 39-year-old man is being investigated by Bucharest police after allegedly threatening and punching three people who participated in Bucharest Pride, according to News.ro. The firearms that the man displayed in social media posts were seized following a house search.
According to the Capital Police, on 17 June 2026, the Public Transport Police Brigade carried out a house search warrant in Bucharest in connection with a criminal file concerning the offences of assault or other violence and threats.
The investigation began on 13 June 2026, when the Public Transport Police Brigade was notified by three people who claimed that, whilst at a public transport station in Sector 5, they were threatened with violence and punched in the face by a man.
"As a result of activities carried out, it was established that the act was allegedly committed by a man aged 37 years. Furthermore, a profile belonging to him was identified on a social media network, in which the suspect, through several posts, appears holding a bladed weapon and two firearms, and investigations are to be carried out in this regard", the Capital Police stated.
The man was located at his home and taken in for questioning. During the search, police identified and seized the weapons mentioned for expert examination, the same source states.
