Police from the Economic Crime Investigation Service at Dolj County Police Inspectorate have held a 45-year-old from Craiova, suspected of illegally introducing hundreds of thousands of cigarettes onto the market.
Investigators conducted raids at four locations in Craiova municipality and Orodel commune, with support from colleagues at the Special Operations Service. The searches were carried out under the coordination of prosecutors from Craiova District Court Prosecution Office.
In the man's van, 503,240 cigarettes without valid fiscal markings were discovered. Another quantity of 6,000 units was found in a residence in the city. Authorities allege that the individual intended to sell the products on the country's territory.
After the completion of interrogations and gathering of evidence, the suspect was placed in preventive arrest for a period of 24 hours. During the following day, he was to be brought before magistrates, who were to decide whether a more restrictive measure was necessary.
