A 55-year-old man is being held in preventive detention for a period of 30 days, on suspicion of committing qualified theft. He is accused of breaking into a house in the centre of Iași, from which he took several valuable items, including watches, jewellery and other accessories, with damages estimated at approximately 100,000 euros.

According to information provided by representatives of the General Inspectorate of Romanian Police, the incident allegedly took place on 29 March. The suspect allegedly forced his way into the property, after which he left with the stolen goods. Several days later, on 2 April, the man allegedly travelled through several streets in the city to get rid of a bag containing the tools used in the burglary.

The diving team of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations in Iași was called upon to recover the bag, which was found in the Bahlui river bed.

On 23 April, law enforcement officers from the Criminal Investigation Bureau in Iași, supported by colleagues from Ialomița, raided the suspect's home, located in the neighbouring county. The man was taken for questioning, and subsequently prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office of Iași District Court requested his arrest. The court accepted the request and ordered the deprivation of liberty measure for 30 days.
