A 56-year-old man lost his life on Saturday in the village of Bălănoaia, Frătești commune, Giurgiu county, following an attack with a bladed weapon committed by a person with whom he lived in the same building.
The incident occurred in the building that once functioned as a school in the locality, where three men shared living space for a period of time. According to reports published by Adevărul, the victim and the aggressor had had a heated exchange of words, and the one who survived declared that he felt provoked because the other man had scolded him loudly.
In the midst of the dispute, the attacker took a knife and struck the 56-year-old man in the neck area, inflicting multiple fatal wounds. The third tenant, a witness to the entire scene, called for help through the emergency number 112.
Medical teams arriving from the Giurgiu County Ambulance Service attempted resuscitation manoeuvres, but the injuries proved to be incompatible with life, and the team established that death had occurred.
The perpetrator did not leave the scene and immediately confessed to police what had happened. The law enforcement officers restrained him with handcuffs and took him to the institution's premises to be questioned by prosecutors.
Investigators are to carry out procedural activities at the scene to reconstruct the sequence of events. The lifeless body of the victim will be transported to the morgue, where forensic doctors will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Prosecutors have opened a criminal case for murder, and the suspect risks being presented to the court with a proposal for preventive arrest.
