DIICOT extends Tate investigation with incitement to hatred charges: new accusations for Andrew
DIICOT expanded criminal proceedings on 28 May 2026 against Andrew Tate, adding a charge of incitement to hatred against women through social media posts from 2021–2024.
DIICOT extends case against Tate brothers with incitement to hatred charges on social media
The Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) announced on Thursday the expansion of investigations in the case of brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate, according to cotidianul.ro. On 28 May 2026, prosecutors ordered the extension of criminal proceedings against Andrew Tate for incitement to hatred or discrimination, in continuing form.
The charge concerns content distributed on social platforms between 2021–2024, through which Andrew Tate allegedly incited the public to hatred and discrimination against women, according to DIICOT's statement.
The expansion is part of the continuation of the case opened in August 2024, in which the two brothers are accused of forming an organised criminal group, human trafficking, trafficking in persons, sexual activity with a minor, influencing statements and money laundering. The investigation is being conducted in collaboration with police officers from the Organised Crime Combat Service Ilfov.
Searches and accusations from August 2024
In August 2024, DIICOT carried out searches in Bucharest and Ilfov county. According to representatives of the Tate brothers, they were directly targeted, with suspicions including human trafficking and money laundering.
DIICOT later specified that, starting from 2015, the Tate brothers and persons in their entourage would have recruited 34 women, forced to produce pornographic material distributed against payment on online platforms. The proceeds obtained from the material were estimated by prosecutors at over 2,800,000 dollars and 887,000 tokens. The case also includes suspicions concerning relationships with minors and significant sums obtained from exploitation of victims.
Following the searches on 21 August 2024, investigators seized cash, luxury goods, electronic equipment and documents. Seizure was instituted on several motor vehicles and a motorcycle. Andrew Tate was placed at that time under house arrest, and Tristan Tate under judicial supervision.
Preventive measures lifted, investigation at liberty
The preventive measures were modified later, and in April 2026 Bucharest Court revoked judicial supervision in the case of both brothers. They are currently under investigation at liberty in cases handled by DIICOT.
Separately, according to AFP, British authorities reopened at the end of March 2026 an investigation into allegations of rape and sexual assault that allegedly took place in 2014 and 2015.
