Capital's Mayor, Ciprian Ciucu, Questioned by DNA in Corruption Case
Bucharest's general mayor, Ciprian Ciucu, was summoned on Thursday to the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, being suspected of committing bribery whilst serving as head of Sector 6.

On Thursday, Ciprian Ciucu, who currently leads the Bucharest City Hall, presented himself at the headquarters of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate. There he was questioned as a suspect in a case concerning the alleged commission of the crime of bribery, according to persons familiar with the investigation who spoke under anonymity for G4Media.
The facts under investigation are said to have occurred during the period when Ciucu held the position of mayor of Sector 6 in the Capital. According to the same sources, there is suspicion that he received money or other benefits in exchange for approving a permit.
Prosecutors opened the investigation in 2025. The mayor was summoned to appear at 3 p.m., and was subsequently charged.
Ciucu could not be reached by journalists to comment on the situation.
From a political standpoint, he holds the position of first vice-president of the National Liberal Party and is considered one of the close associates of Ilie Bolojan, the party leader, who actively supported him in the race for the position of General Mayor.
The event takes place shortly before an extraordinary congress of the PNL, scheduled for Sunday, in the context of an internal crisis triggered after President Nicușor Dan designated Adrian Veștea for the position of prime minister, without consulting the party.
The institution conducting the case is headed by chief prosecutor Viorel Cerbu, appointed by the head of state in April, at the proposal of former Justice Minister Radu Marinescu.
