Brașov farmer detained by DNA after allegedly falsely declaring number of animals on farm
A farmer from Brașov County has been detained for 24 hours by prosecutors from the DNA, starting on 28 October 2026, accused of attempted fraud with European funds, according to adevarul.ro.
Prosecutors from the National Anti-Corruption Directorate – Brașov Territorial Service have initiated criminal proceedings against the farmer, investigated for attempted use or presentation of false, inaccurate or incomplete documents or declarations, with the aim of obtaining European funds. According to the DNA, the alleged offence was committed in a state of recidivism.
According to investigators, in the period May–September 2026, the farmer allegedly submitted false documents and declarations to the Agency for Payments and Intervention for Agriculture – Brașov County Centre. Through these, he allegedly falsely attested that he owned 429 sheep and 55 goats eligible for payment on his livestock farm.
In reality, according to evidence presented by investigators, he owned only 151 sheep and no goats.
Prosecutors claim that through these actions, the farmer aimed to unlawfully obtain European funds, as well as sums from the national budget, in the form of financial support.
The offence remained in the attempted stage, being interrupted on 11 September 2026, following searches and on-site investigation carried out by investigators.
On 29 October 2026, the farmer is to be presented to the Brașov Court with a proposal for preventive detention for 30 days. The preventive measure will be analysed by the court.
