PSD mayor from Bacău county caught red-handed with €6,000

Benone Moraru (PSD), mayor of Slănic Moldova, Bacău county, has been held by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) on suspicion of taking a bribe, according to ProTV News. The detention came at the moment when the official received the sum of €6,000 from a representative of a company with which the City Hall had concluded a service provision contract.

According to a statement issued by DNA, Moraru Benone was held for 24 hours. On 28 October 2026, he is to be brought before Bucharest Court with a proposal for preventive arrest for 30 days.

The contract in question, signed during 2025, has a value of 1,464,349.43 lei and concerns "Emergency intervention – Restoration of drinking water supply capacity from a drain at the level of Slănic-Moldova city, Bacău county", DNA specifies in its statement.

According to the same official source, the mayor is said to have received a first instalment of €15,000 on 23 July 2026, from the representative of the commercial company in question, in connection with the awarding, extension and execution of the contract — at a time when some of the works executed had already been paid for by the City Hall.

The second instalment, of €6,000, was received by Moraru Benone on 27 October 2026, from the same person, also in connection with the implementation of the contract. Anti-corruption prosecutors established the flagrant offence at the moment of the transfer of this sum, DNA further notes.
