A network comprising 11 people of Sri Lankan origin has been dismantled in Bucharest. Nine members have been placed in preventive custody by magistrates after police discovered drugs and dosing equipment at their homes.

Magistrates in Bucharest have ordered the placement in preventive custody for one month of nine individuals, all from Sri Lanka, suspected of establishing a criminal network and selling drugs. One of them is also under investigation in connection with the death of a young man who consumed a lethal dose during a party organised by the group.
According to information provided by AGERPRES, law enforcement from the Organised Crime Combat Brigade in the capital, under the coordination of prosecutors from DIICOT – Central Structure, conducted raids at 15 addresses on 22 and 23 June 2026. The investigation targeted 11 people of the same nationality, accused of forming a criminal organisation and distributing high-risk and very high-risk drugs.
For one of the defendants, investigators also retained the charge of marketing dangerous substances that led to the death of an event participant, in the form of complicity.
During the searches, law enforcement found and confiscated cannabis and cocaine, high-precision electronic scales, grinding devices, a vacuum packaging apparatus, objects contaminated with psychoactive substances, sums of money and other evidence.
Prosecutors ordered the detention of nine suspects and judicial control for two others. The following day, the court confirmed the preventive arrest of the nine for 30 days. The operation was supported by gendarmes from the Special Intervention Brigade.
