Ciumac challenges Bucharest Court's ban on participation in MMA gala
Fighter Anatolie "Tolea" Ciumac requested permission from Bucharest Court on Friday to leave his house arrest in order to participate that same evening in the Heroes 16 mixed martial arts gala held in Buzău, according to Gândul.
The District 3 Magistrate Court had previously rejected the athlete's request to leave his home to compete in the bout. Ciumac contested this decision at Bucharest Court, and the ruling handed down on Friday is final.
The former K1 fighter had been placed in preventive detention on 19 September for 30 days after becoming involved in a brawl in the Old Town of the Capital. The District 3 Magistrate Court partially upheld the prosecutors' proposal and ordered preventive detention for the period 13 September – 12 October 2026 for the offence of disturbing public order and peace.
The Court subsequently upheld the lower court's decision following an initial appeal. Judges then placed Ciumac under house arrest, and prosecutors from the office attached to the District 3 Magistrate Court referred him for prosecution.
The incident occurred on the evening of 12 September in front of an establishment on Lipscani street. Officers from Section 27 Police initiated proceedings ex officio after images capturing the conflict appeared in the public sphere.
According to Bucharest Police, the two men involved allegedly assaulted each other initially, after which one of them allegedly continued to strike the other repeatedly. Both were brought in for questioning to establish the circumstances, but the injured party refused to file a complaint.
Ciumac was initially detained for 24 hours and was investigated for assault or other violence and disturbing public order and peace.
