Officials from the Interior Ministry have signalled an alarming global trend: drones are increasingly being used for the distribution of banned substances. The phenomenon has already been confirmed in numerous countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Brazil and Mexico, where thousands of such incidents have been documented.
In Romania, authorities have already identified cases in which improvised unmanned aircraft have been used to introduce forbidden items over prison walls. There are also suspicions that such devices are being used to transport drugs to consumers in crowded areas of the capital, including in clubs and at private parties.
The institution's spokesperson, Miruna Cătuneanu, emphasised that national legislation concerning unauthorised flight is very strict. Drone owners must register their devices, respect airspace restrictions and pilot responsibly. Breaching these regulations incurs severe penalties.
The authorities' message is clear: unmanned devices are not mere toys, and their use for illicit purposes represents a threat to public safety and will be punished according to the law.
