A sub-commissioner from the Olt County Police Inspectorate has been referred to justice by anti-corruption prosecutors on suspicion of soliciting money from a businessman, promising to influence colleagues and a judge.

Anti-corruption prosecutors from Craiova have brought Iulian Alexandru Georgescu, a sub-commissioner within the Olt County Police Inspectorate in the department dealing with economic crimes, before the court. He is accused of trafficking in influence.
Investigators contend that in autumn 2024 and then in spring 2025, the police officer requested money from a company owner through an intermediary. Initially, the sum was not specified, then it was set at several thousand euros, eventually reaching 6,000 euros.
According to the charge sheet, the law enforcement officer allegedly suggested that he could persuade a colleague from the institution and a magistrate to reach a favourable decision for the businessman, who was under criminal investigation for tax evasion.
In summer 2025, the defendant allegedly received the first instalment of 3,000 euros through the intermediary. Later, in spring 2026, he allegedly requested the remainder of the money. At the end of April 2026, when he received the remaining 3,000 euros, investigators caught him in the act.
The first instalment of money was returned to the victim, so no measures were taken to seize assets.
The intermediary who participated in the arrangement signed an agreement with prosecutors, admitting guilt. He accepted a sentence of 2 years' imprisonment suspended, over a supervisory period of 30 months. He was stripped of civil rights for 2 years and was required to perform 80 days of community service.
The case was referred to Dolj Court, with the recommendation that the police officer remain in detention during the trial.
