Four managers of private clinic in Ploiești detained preventively for medical fraud

A court in Prahova county has ordered the deprivation of liberty for four people holding management positions in a private medical unit in the municipality of Ploiești. The decision was made in a criminal case coordinated by DIICOT prosecutors, who are investigating a possible fraudulent scheme for reimbursement of procedures that allegedly were not actually performed.

According to investigators, the clinic allegedly requested and received money from the public health system for fictitious medical services. The sum estimated as damage exceeds 2.4 million lei, money that should have funded actual patient care.

The prosecutors maintain that the scheme operated through reporting consultations and treatments that did not take place, and the difference between the accounting documents and the actual activity of the medical unit allegedly generated illicit profit. The four suspects were placed in preventive detention, the measure being justified by the risk of disrupting the investigation or influencing other persons involved.

The investigation continues, and the authorities have not ruled out the possibility of extending the inquiry to other entities connected with the identified financial circuit.
