A criminal group that falsified traffic accidents involving brand-name vehicles to collect compensation from insurance companies has been dismantled by law enforcement in Constanța. Following raids, two individuals have been temporarily imprisoned, and four others are under investigation without being arrested.

Investigators discovered that throughout 2026, members of the group allegedly orchestrated and deliberately caused damage to expensive vehicles. The staged incidents were subsequently reported as authentic to insurance companies, triggering procedures for payment of unwarranted sums.

To cover their tracks, the suspects allegedly repeatedly used identity documents belonging to persons outside the group. Using these documents, they concluded vehicle purchase-sale contracts and mandatory third-party liability insurance policies, preventing the actual beneficiaries from being easily identified.

In addition, between 2024-2026, two of those under investigation allegedly lent money to several witnesses, charging interest without the necessary legal authorisation. From these unauthorised lending operations, they allegedly gained approximately 55,000 lei.

Police from the Criminal Investigation Service of the municipality, under the supervision of prosecutors, carried out three authorised raids at the homes of the suspects in Constanța. The two individuals deprived of liberty, one aged 21 and the other 35, were to be brought before the magistrate at the Constanța District Prosecution Office to decide on a preventative measure.
