Seven arrested for axe and bat attack on Cluj ambulance
Cluj Court has rejected appeals from seven defendants who attacked an ambulance crew from the Cluj County Ambulance Service. The decision to remand them in custody remains final.

Cluj Court rejected on Thursday appeals filed by seven people arrested for a violent attack on a crew from the Cluj County Ambulance Service, according to Digi24. The seven — one woman and six men — remain in remand in custody, with the decision being final.
The defendants had been held in custody for 30 days beginning on 10 August, after Dej Court of First Instance approved the prosecution's proposal. Subsequently, they challenged the liberty-restricting measure in court, but Cluj Court rejected their appeals as unfounded, maintaining criminal ruling no. 28/A/CC/2026 pronounced by the judge of rights and liberties at Dej Court of First Instance.
According to a statement from the Prosecution attached to Dej Court of First Instance, the incident took place on 8 August 2026, around 22:20–22:30, in the locality of Căprioara, Recea-Cristur commune, Cluj county. Two of the defendants — L.D. and C.C.A. — blocked the ambulance special vehicle with their utility vehicles, positioned perpendicularly on County Road 109A, preventing the ambulance crew's driver from continuing his journey.
Immediately after, the other defendants attacked the crew inside the ambulance using blunt objects: batons, axes, wooden stakes, a shovel and stones. Following the attack, the special vehicle belonging to Cluj IGSU was damaged, and public order and peace were seriously disturbed.
From the evidence produced, it appears that defendant C.L. broke the special vehicle's window with a stone, with the shards wounding the ambulance driver, C.F.I., in the eyes. The injuries suffered by him require 18–20 days of medical care for recovery.
The seven are being investigated for disturbing public order and peace, and some of them also for assault or other acts of violence. The attack occurred in the context of the assailants accusing the crew of having "stolen children" — an accusation without foundation that triggered the violence.
