A police officer from Olt Police Inspectorate has been sent to trial whilst in preventive arrest, accused of demanding €6,000 from a company administrator in exchange for intervening with a colleague and a magistrate.

Iulian Alexandru Georgescu, a subcomisar in the police structure of Olt county, working in the department investigating economic crimes, was referred to justice on 17 June by anti-corruption prosecutors from Craiova. He is being investigated on charges of trafficking in influence and is placed in preventive arrest.
The investigation shows that, in autumn 2024 and then in spring the following year, the law enforcement officer allegedly requested money from a company owner through the intermediary of a private person, identified as P.D.G. The amount requested increased gradually, eventually being set at €6,000.
The police officer allegedly gave the impression that he could act upon a colleague in the service and a judge, guaranteeing that he would obtain a favourable ruling in a criminal case in which the businessman was being investigated for tax evasion.
According to the indictment, on 4 June 2025, Georgescu allegedly received €3,000 through an intermediary, representing part of the total. Then, in the period March-April 2026, he allegedly insistently demanded the remainder.
On 29 April 2026, at the moment he received the remaining €3,000, investigators made an arrest in flagrante delicto. The first tranche, received in June 2025, had already been returned to the complainant, which is why the confiscation of assets was not necessary.
In parallel, intermediary P.D.G. signed a plea agreement, fully accepting the facts and cooperating with the investigation. The agreed sentence provides for 24 months' imprisonment with suspension, under a supervision regime of two and a half years, deprivation of civil rights for a period of two years, reintegration programmes and 80 days of work in the public interest.
The case was transmitted to Dolj Tribunal, with prosecutors requesting that the deprivation of liberty measure be maintained.
