20-year-old man from Mehedinți arrested on remand for drug trafficking
A man aged twenty years, originally from Mehedinți County, is in custody following an operation conducted by law enforcement against the trafficking of banned substances.
Investigators from the specialist drug unit of the Mehedinți police, under the coordination of anti-organised crime prosecutors, have gathered evidence indicating that the young man repeatedly sold substantial quantities of cannabis and synthetic psychoactive substances throughout this year. Estimates indicate over one hundred grammes of cannabis and a quantity of 2MMC, a synthetic substance from the cathinone family.
During the investigation, a patrol from the local police in Baia de Aramă caught the suspect while transporting drugs on his person. The illicit material was immediately confiscated.
In the middle of last week, on 24 June, law enforcement raided two locations: the man's residence in Baia de Aramă and a room in a university residence in Timișoara. Following the searches, several objects contaminated with drug traces were discovered and seized, a precision measuring device, and other evidence relevant to the case.
In the evening of the same day, prosecutors decided to deprive the accused of liberty for one day. The next day, on 25 June, a magistrate at the Mehedinți court converted the measure into 30-day preventive arrest.
Specialists from BCCO Timișoara, as well as units from the Mehedinți gendarmerie, also took part in the operation.
