Repeated shootings in Sollentuna – police suspect gang conflict

According to omni.se, several gunshots and what may have been an explosion were heard in a residential area in Sollentuna, north of Stockholm, shortly before midnight on Friday evening. Police suspect that shots were fired at vehicles in the area. No person was found injured.

– A number of shots have been fired. It could very well have been automatic weapons that were used, but that is not something I can confirm, said Lena Baakki, duty officer at Stockholm police.

A total of four shootings occurred over the course of two days during the weekend. In connection with this, two men were arrested on suspicion of aggravated weapons offences and drug offences – but both have since been released, according to Expressen.

– My client has nothing to do with these shootings, said lawyer Thomas Martinson, who represents one of the suspects, to the newspaper.

The other man also denies involvement in the shootings, which according to reports were carried out with automatic rifles.

As a result of the repeated violence, police have reinforced their presence in the area with a riot unit on standby, reports TT.

– We have reinforced further and will have personnel in locations that we assess as important and that have the capacity to act if we end up in a situation with another shooting, said police spokesperson Lars Byström.

Police suspect that the four incidents are connected and that it concerns a gang conflict. No one has so far been reported injured in any of the incidents.

During the latest shootings overnight, three separate incidents are said to have occurred, including near Tureberg square – the same area where shots were fired the night before.

– There are three different incidents, but it has been around a restaurant here at Tureberg square, said Carina Skagerlind, spokesperson for Stockholm police, to TT.

Spent cartridges were found at the location and bullet holes were found in the municipal building. No suspected perpetrators had been arrested at the time of reporting.
