Offered cash in police vehicle after arrest at Gekås Camping

A 53-year-old man from Varberg is being charged with bribery after offering police officers 50,000 kronor in cash to be released in connection with an arrest, according to svt.se.

On 31 May this year, police arrested the man following a quarrel at Gekås Camping. Once in the police vehicle, he is said to have made the offer of money – despite the police officers informing him that bribery is illegal.

From a video recorded in the vehicle it appears that the man continued to press the matter even after the warning. In the recording he is heard saying: "You can let me go here so I can go home. You get 50 grand."

During questioning, the 53-year-old stated that he was not sober at the time and that he does not remember the incident. He denies the charges.

The prosecution is now being heard at Varberg District Court.
