After a lengthy investigation, Nova Gorica police arrested a man who allegedly vandalised the railway line between Sežana and Jesenice over several months.
34-year-old accused of eighteen instances of railway equipment damage worth over 400,000 euros
Detectives from the Nova Gorica police directorate arrested a man after months of investigative work who allegedly systematically destroyed infrastructure on the railways. The 34-year-old suspect is accused of carrying out eight attacks on railway tracks and safety systems between Sežana and Jesenice from last September onwards.
His conduct caused material damage to the national transport operator estimated at over four hundred thousand euros. Beyond the property damage aspect, the actions posed an extremely serious risk to traffic. In autumn last year, as a result of his interference with railway infrastructure, a serious accident occurred: the first four carriages of a passenger train derailed.
In pursuing and apprehending the suspect, detectives collaborated with colleagues from other police units across Slovenia. The investigation was demanding and lasted several months.
