Two Slovenes on EU Most Wanted list: Petrič and Smrekar sought across Europe
Slovenian police are searching for Mitja Petrič on suspicion of fraud and money laundering, and Melisa Smrekar for the abduction of a minor.
Slovenian fugitives on European list of most wanted
Nadlani.si reports that amongst Europe's most wanted fugitives are two Slovenes – Mitja Petrič and Melisa Smrekar. Slovenian police have called upon the public for assistance in locating them as part of the EU Most Wanted campaign.
Persons included on the EU Most Wanted list are those sought by European law enforcement authorities for the most serious criminal offences, including murders, drug trafficking, robberies and extortion. Police urge citizens to examine photographs and descriptions of the wanted persons, as even minor information can prove crucial to a breakthrough in investigation.
Mitja Petrič is sought on suspicion of fraud and money laundering. According to police, he allegedly convinced several persons to invest money by promising safe investments and high returns, then defrauded them. Investigators assess that he is hiding abroad – both an international and a European arrest warrant have been issued against him.
Melisa Smrekar is suspected of abducting a minor. Police state that she allegedly prevented the execution of a legally enforceable court decision regarding the underage daughter of Julija Pogačar and has since been detaining her at an unknown location, thereby allegedly preventing the girl from having contact with her other parent.
Police emphasise that anyone can assist in the search. Information about the movements of wanted persons can be reported to the relevant authorities through the EU Most Wanted system. Numerous fugitives have been apprehended in the past based on reports from citizens, and police once again urge the public to cooperate.
