In one case, a man lost €43,000 when purchasing a vehicle over the internet, whilst in another case an unknown person stole €21,000 from an account.
Two victims of online fraud in Celje region lose combined €64,000
Officers from the Celje police force have investigated two cases of digital fraud in which the victims lost a combined €64,000.
In the first incident, a man decided to purchase a vehicle over the internet. He made contact with a company from Germany that deals in automobiles. He received appropriate documentation and an invoice for a vehicle worth €43,000, which he also paid.
Only later did he discover that an unknown attacker had penetrated the seller's information system and provided him with a fraudulent contract and a different account number. The money was transferred to an account controlled by the fraudster.
In the second case, an unknown person made contact with the victim and persuaded them to download a particular programme onto their smartphone. The perpetrator claimed it was a tool for receiving funds obtained from purchasing cryptocurrencies. Instead of the expected profit, the victim lost approximately €21,000 from their bank account.
