At border crossings in Slovenia, customs officials seized large quantities of undeclared cigarettes, spirits and an illegal pistol with ammunition in a short space of time.

In recent days, the relevant authorities at border crossings in Slovenia prevented several attempts to illegally transport goods across the state border. During routine inspections, they discovered large quantities of undeclared tobacco products, alcoholic beverages and even firearms.
Moldovan bus near Maribor
On 20 March, a mobile unit from Maribor stopped a passenger bus with a Moldovan registration plate near the town. A Romanian citizen was behind the wheel, who claimed there were no hidden objects in the vehicle. He also mentioned that Hungarian authorities had already inspected the vehicle twice without findings.
Slovenian inspectors nevertheless discovered almost 36,000 cigarettes, which had been carefully hidden in numerous locations: in specially prepared cavities under the bodywork at the wheels, behind passenger seats, under the rear windscreen and even inside a spare tyre.
Bosnian bus at Gruškovje
Two days later, on 22 March, a unit from Brežice inspected a bus with a registration from Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Gruškovje border crossing. None of the passengers declared any goods for customs clearance.
During a more detailed inspection, the inspectors found almost 26,000 cigarettes hidden under covers of luggage racks above seats and inside the wall of the driver's rest cabin. Additionally, they discovered 26 litres of spirits behind the ventilation system cover.
The driver, who is a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, admitted that he had obtained the tobacco himself and prepared it for concealment. According to his account, the intended destination of the journey was Germany.
Weapon at Jelšane
Finally, on 23 March, at the Jelšane border crossing, customs and police officers conducted a joint inspection of a bus with a Croatian licence plate. In a 60-year-old passenger with dual German and Croatian citizenship, they found a 7.65-millimetre pistol stored in a travel bag. In his trouser pocket he was carrying a magazine with six rounds.
The police station at Jelšane retained the firearm and ammunition for further investigation.
