The Special State Prosecutor's Office filed criminal charges in court in the capital days ago against the former head of police. Senada Jušić, who led the police from September 2023 to January last year, faces allegations of attempting to bribe a judicial official.
The investigation began in autumn last year after prosecutor Mateja Gončin filed a report. During a conversation at police headquarters in Ljubljana, Jušić allegedly offered to help her with a matter she was involved in if she would mediate with a colleague at the prosecutor's office. As a reward, he allegedly invited her to dinner.
Gončin assessed that this constituted inappropriate pressure on the functioning of the judiciary and reported the matter. She initially believed it was an attempt to abuse his position, but the prosecutor's office later changed the legal classification. Jušić is now suspected of actions related to accepting benefits for unlawful mediation.
The entire matter has a broader background. At the end of January last year, Gončin also reported other police officials and the leadership of the Protection and Security Centre. She claimed that irregularities had occurred in her protection during 2023 and 2024. The special unit of the prosecutor's office rejected this report, so she took further steps herself.
In early spring last year, she therefore submitted a request to the lower court in Ljubljana for the implementation of investigative measures against several employees in the centre and police. According to reports by Večer, the court was soon to begin gathering evidence.
