Celje police have investigated an online fraud case in which the victim lost €43,000. A man contacted a German company specialising in vehicle sales via the internet and received a contract and invoice for the desired car. After settling the invoice, he discovered that he had been the victim of a fraud scheme.
An unknown perpetrator had breached the information system of the German seller and sent the citizen a fraudulent contract along with a different transaction account. The Slovenian man transferred the money to this account, unaware that it was a fraudulent address. It was only later revealed that the company had been the victim of a cyber attack.
Police have classified the case as online fraud and are continuing their investigation. The prosecutor's office and criminal investigators are gathering evidence and attempting to identify the perpetrator who exploited a vulnerability in the computer system of the foreign company.
