Three company leaders in Ptuj charged over failure to pay social contributions
Investigators from Maribor have concluded a case against three management employees of a commercial company from the Ptuj area. Following the public prosecutor's instructions, they gathered sufficient evidence to bring charges for alleged violation of employee rights.
It all began with a notification from officials of the Slovenian Tax Authority. They had spotted irregularities in the company's compliance with its obligations to the state and employees. Based on this, detectives began gathering information.
In the period from the end of 2022 to the beginning of spring 2025, the suspects submitted monthly forms showing paid wages, but did not transfer money for insurance to the correct accounts. The investigation showed that this was not due to lack of funds – the company settled other bills and operating costs in the same period.
The consequence of such conduct is severe material damage to employees. Several workers lost their entitlement to pension years, health insurance coverage and other social benefits over more than two years. The estimated damage exceeds 294,000 euros.
All three suspects are responsible persons in the legal entity, making them liable to prosecution under the provisions of Article 196 of the Criminal Code. This article protects workers from abuse by employers in the payment of wages and other rights arising from employment relationships.
