A young pedagogue from the Spišská region city died on Saturday following an attack which police believe was carried out by her own partner. The man fled the scene, but was caught that same day.

Operators of the emergency line 158 received a report of a woman being attacked by her husband. Upon the arrival of patrol units, the suspicion was confirmed. However, the perpetrator had already disappeared and police had to act immediately.

Jana Illéšová, spokesperson for the regional police in Košice, explained that the suspect's flight worsened the situation. It was not possible to rule out that he could still be a danger, so multiple units were deployed to the operation. Criminal investigators from Košice collaborated with colleagues from Prešov. The public provided tips that led to the swift discovery of the man.

An investigator has already accused the suspect of the particularly serious crime of murder. He has also prepared a request for the suspect's remand in custody. If the court proves guilt, the man faces lengthy imprisonment – from 15 to 20 years.

Television JOJ identified the victim as 47-year-old Zuzana, who taught at a primary school. According to witness accounts, she had a knife wound to the neck. Neighbours heard a loud scream before the attack and called emergency services, but the woman could not be saved. The married couple had long-standing problems, according to those around them.
