The regional public prosecutor's office in Trenčín has brought charges against seven individuals in a case involving extensive fraud with state subsidies. The case dates to the summer of 2021, specifically to the period between June and August. The development was reported by spokesperson for the prosecutor's office there, Marián Sipavý, with details provided by Noviny.sk.
The accused are being prosecuted for two serious criminal offences. The first is fraud with public funds committed by multiple perpetrators jointly. The second is money laundering from illegal activity.
The financial damage suffered by the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, based in Pezinok, amounts to nearly 13.6 million euros. The exact sum was calculated at 13,585,735.92 euros.
Investigators determined that the accused had obtained funds from public sources intended to provide assistance in the areas of employment and social care. The fraudulent scheme was planned and carried out by an organised group that worked together to obtain unauthorised payments.
The case is now proceeding to the judicial phase. If found guilty, the accused face strict punishment for causing particularly extensive damage to state property.
