According to rimava.sk, a fatal shooting took place early on Saturday, 31 October at a cottage in the Nová Baňa district, resulting in the death of one man.
Petra Kováčiková, spokeswoman for the Regional Directorate of the Police Corps, stated that it was a conflict between family members. "According to information available so far, it was a conflict between family members in which a man sustained a gunshot wound," said Kováčiková. Despite efforts to save him, the injured man succumbed to his wounds.
The case was taken over by the regional investigator, who has launched criminal prosecution for the particularly serious crime of murder. Police have detained a person suspected of committing the act. Based on available information, it has not yet been established whether anyone has been charged.
The motive and the precise circumstances preceding the conflict are the subject of the investigation. "Further details of the case cannot currently be specified in more detail due to the ongoing investigation," added spokeswoman Kováčiková.
