Driver under the influence of drugs fled police on motorway, caught and taken directly to prison
An exceptionally dangerous driving incident was recorded by a patrol of the Trenčín motorway police on the motorway near Nové Mesto nad Váhom. According to Nový Čas, a 24-year-old driver was travelling in the wrong direction at a speed of approximately 230 kilometres per hour and did not respond to repeated orders to stop.
During the pursuit, the driver repeatedly changed direction and endangered other road users. He slowed down several times, which could have suggested an intention to stop, but each time the patrol drew closer, he accelerated again and continued fleeing.
"Those 230 kilometres per hour is racing speed at which formula cars move on closed circuits, where things are prepared for if something happens. A motorway, however, is not designed for that," said transport road expert Milan Holéci.
The chase ended on a motorway slip road. The driver went into the oncoming lane and hit metal barriers. Even after the impact, he did not stop voluntarily — he got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
Police officers nonetheless traced and detained him. During a check, he underwent a preliminary drugs test, which tested positive for methamphetamine and cocaine. Officers also seized a plastic bag containing a substance containing methamphetamine from the scene.
An investigator submitted a proposal for custody proceedings. The man was placed in a police cell and the case was referred to court. The 24-year-old accused refused to answer questions regarding drugs at the hearing. The judge granted the proposal for custody proceedings and the accused was escorted directly to prison immediately after the hearing.
