Murder from 2011: man detained in Košice, Specialised Criminal Court remands him in custody

Detainee in Operation Kainos accused of aggravated premeditated murder from 2011

A man detained in Košice as part of Operation Kainos is being held in custody on preventive grounds, koktejl.azet.sk reported. The Specialised Criminal Court decided to remand him in custody.

Police Presidium spokeswoman Lea Vilhanová told the TASR agency that following the man's detention and completion of procedural steps, the legal classification was changed — from the offence of murder to the particularly serious crime of premeditated murder committed in the form of complicity.

The case is linked to the violent death of a man, which occurred in November 2011 in western Slovakia. "The investigation continues," Vilhanová said. The operation was carried out by officers from the anti-crime unit of the Office for Combating Organised Crime at the Police Presidium.

The motive for the crime was said to be the seizure of cash that the victim had on him. According to police, the accused allegedly participated in the moving of the body and the concealment of evidence following the murder, including the destruction of the vehicle by arson.

The filing of charges was preceded by long-term and intensive work by officers from the anti-crime unit, according to police.
