A woman working as a teacher in Gelnice applied for a protective order four months before her death. She wanted to prevent her partner from entering her home and from approaching her within less than fifty metres. However, the judge did not rule in her favour.

The reason for the rejection was the fact that the accused man was in a prison facility at the time the application was filed. According to the judge, therefore, it was not demonstrated that it was an urgent matter, as he was unable to enter the flat or approach her at that time.

Later, the man was released from custody. Last Saturday, just a few days after returning home, he killed his wife.
