On Saturday 19 July 2025, a dead woman was found in a house near Gelnica, which the couple used as a recreational property. The victim worked as a teacher at a primary school. Details were reported by the portal Aktuality.
An emergency call to the 158 line reported an assault on a woman by her partner. Officers who arrived at the scene confirmed it was a serious incident. However, the perpetrator fled the scene before the intervention units arrived.
Investigators from the Košice regional police headquarters joined forces with colleagues from Spišská Nová Ves. As there was a risk that the suspect could leave the region, they expanded the search operation to other regions. Police departments across the country immediately shared an alert.
On Sunday evening, representatives of the police force thanked colleagues from other areas for their swift response. Thanks to citizens noticing suspicious behaviour and not remaining indifferent, the man was apprehended within a relatively short time.
After gathering sufficient evidence and carrying out necessary procedures, the investigator charged the suspect with aggravated murder. He simultaneously recommended to the prosecutor that the accused be remanded in custody.
If the court finds the man guilty, he could face a lengthy prison sentence – specifically between 15 and 20 years. Regional officials commended the work of the criminal investigators, who rapidly clarified the case.
