The Specialised Criminal Court in Pezinok continued proceedings on Wednesday in the case of the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová, where former secret service officer Péter Tóth was questioned.

On Wednesday, proceedings continued at the Specialised Criminal Court in Pezinok in the case of the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and Martina Kušnírová, as well as in the matter of planned murders of prosecutors. On this day, witness Péter Tóth, a former employee of the Slovak Information Service, was questioned.
At a hearing in January 2020, Tóth stated that he had no doubt that Marian K. and Alena Zs. had jointly planned Kuciak's murder. According to his account, surveillance of journalists and the internet programme Pellengér by Marian K. served only as a cover story for the later murder. However, in September 2022, Tóth refused to testify.
Marian K. and Alena Zs. face charges that they ordered the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak. In an attack carried out in February 2018 in Veľká Mača, his fiancée Martina Kušnírová also lost her life.
The Supreme Court previously quashed two earlier judgements in this case. Therefore, the Specialised Criminal Court is hearing the case for the third time. In earlier proceedings, it sentenced Miroslav Marček and Tomáš Szabó, the perpetrators of the murder, to 25 years imprisonment, and Zoltán Andruskó, who played the role of intermediary, to 15 years imprisonment.
In addition to Marian K. and Alena Zs., charges were also brought against Dušan K. and Darko D. for planned murders of prosecutors. According to the indictment, in autumn 2017 they ordered the murder of Maroš Žilinka and Daniel Lipšic, and in 2018 the killing of Péter Šufliarsky. These murders ultimately did not take place.
