The District Court in Čadca, under the jurisdiction of the District Court Žilina, delivered its verdict on 18 June 2026 in the case of Simone B. The thirty-two-year-old accused was sentenced to seventeen years in prison under the strictest regime and was additionally ordered to undergo addiction treatment.

The incident occurred in the summer of the previous year. The accused contacted the emergency line from the area of the Liptovská Mara reservoir. She reported that her child had drowned and that she was attempting to resuscitate him. On arrival at the scene, rescuers found that the body of the three-year-old boy had shown no signs of life for some time and his clothes were dry.

Investigation authorities gradually uncovered a different scenario. According to the prosecution, the mother killed the child by suffocation and strangulation, using household textiles and part of bathroom clothing. The act was allegedly committed while under the influence of narcotics.

The original account of an accident in the water proved to be false. By the end of the previous year, the state prosecutor had reached a preliminary agreement on guilt and sentence with the suspect, proposing nineteen years. However, the woman rejected this agreement in court. Not until May, after the indictment was read, did she confess.

Mental health expert Ján Uhrin stated in his analysis that the perpetrator was not mentally ill. He found her to have a methamphetamine dependency and an unstable personality with a tendency towards sudden reactions.

The prosecutor requested a twenty-year sentence; the defence counsel requested fifteen years. The judge ultimately set the sentence at seventeen years. The verdict is not yet final, as both parties have reserved the right to appeal.
