A court office in Čadca handed down a sentence on Thursday against a 32-year-old woman who faced charges of an exceptionally serious crime of murder. The defendant Simonu B. was sentenced to seventeen years in prison for depriving her three-year-old child of life last summer.

The tragedy occurred at Liptovská Mara. The perpetrator first called rescue services claiming that her son had drowned and that she was attempting to revive him. Investigators, however, discovered that the boy had dry clothes and had died approximately an hour before help arrived. According to the case file, the woman first strangled the boy and suffocated him using a pillow and a dressing gown belt. She was under the influence of drugs at the time of the act.

During the proceedings, the defendant confessed to the act. She originally had an agreement with the prosecutor regarding guilt and sentence for 19 years, but later rejected it. The prosecutor subsequently requested a twenty-year sentence, the defence counsel fifteen years. The judge ultimately decided on seventeen years imprisonment in a facility with the strictest regime. Additionally, she must undergo mandatory drug rehabilitation treatment.

A forensic psychiatrist established that the woman does not suffer from a mental disorder. However, addiction to pervitin and unstable personality with impulsive behaviour were found in her case.

The decision has not yet become final, as both parties reserved the right to appeal.
