A routine traffic stop triggered a pursuit that ended with a law enforcement officer detained in Montevideo. The incident took place this Wednesday in the Punta de Rieles area, where mobile units detected two cars circulating without identification plates.

The patrol cars pursued the vehicles to the intersection of Leandro Gómez and Caviglia, managing to stop both. Upon identifying the driver of the red Nissan, the uniformed officers found themselves facing an unusual situation: the driver was a police officer who worked at the Canelones Police Headquarters.

A search of the officer yielded an even more serious result. Along with his service Glock pistol, he was carrying a second weapon that was listed as being sought by judicial authorities. This discovery significantly complicated the officer's situation, and he was arrested on the spot.

According to reports by news programme Subrayado, the officer will be turned over to the judiciary to answer for his actions. The other vehicle that participated in the escape was also stopped at the same location, although no information emerged about who was on board.

The case is particularly striking because it involves a law enforcement representative who, instead of upholding the law, was clearly breaking it by driving a vehicle without visible documentation and carrying a weapon subject to legal restrictions.
