Rooftop fireworks lead to two arrests in Birmingham
Two men have been arrested after fireworks were discharged from a rooftop in Birmingham city centre, ca.news.yahoo.com reports.
Officers on patrol in the area responded to the incident on Dale End during Friday night and into Saturday morning, according to West Midlands Police. Drones were deployed to search the area before the two men — aged 26 and 28 — were detained on suspicion of illegally throwing fireworks in a public place. Both remained in custody for questioning.
The arrests formed part of a large-scale policing operation that included a visible presence around the Birmingham Christmas markets and patrols along Bagot Street and Staniforth Street.
The incident follows a series of firework-related arrests in the city centre over the past week. On Halloween, seven people aged between 15 and 26 were detained after fireworks were set off near police officers and vehicles on Corporation Street. During Bonfire Night, three teenage boys were also arrested after fireworks were thrown at buildings on Staniforth Street, close to Aston University.
"Anyone misusing fireworks can expect to be dealt with and prosecuted," West Midlands Police said in a statement.
